The application deadline for studies in the semester starting in August, 2021, is at 5 pm CET on April 15th, 2021. All required documents have to be uploaded into the online system before that date. No late or incomplete applications will be considered. Please note that if signatures on documents required to be signed by authorized contact person at the home university are not feasible to get, KTH will consider documents that have been signed electronically during the year 2021, this due to the pandemic.
Nominations of students are made only into the online system by Mapua Representative, Dr. Delia B. Senoro and the student, by having the student print a document from the online system to get signed by Mapua Representative, Dr. Delia B. Senoro, and then upload it into the online system!
As a reminder, KTH does not ask for any result from official language tests, however we strongly recommend that students applying for exchange studies at KTH have a proficiency of English equivalent to the European B2 level.

21. EU announces 2020 Call for Proposals for Civil Society Organizations (Argentina)
The European Union (EU) has announced a Call for Proposals to contribute to the strengthening of civil society as independent actors of sustainable development. In a difficult socio-economic situation, in which Argentina faces significant challenges linked to the financial crisis and the consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the specific objectives of this call for proposals is to promote society's organizations Argentine civilian.

22. Friends of the Environment Foundation Grant, TD Bank (Canada)
The Foundation supports a wide range of environmental initiatives, with a primary focus on environmental education and green space programs. Eligible projects include schoolyard greening, park revitalization, community gardens, park programming and citizen science initiatives.

23. Special Grant, Tiara Foundation (India)
One-time grant for students who already have an offer of a place in a University overseas for Post Graduate Studies, with a scholarship/fee waiver and teaching assistantship to finance their study.

24. New Grant Round Competition, Global Challenges Local Solutions (Europe)
Grantmaking program that supports community foundations throughout Europe to address global challenges on the local level. It was set to provide them with additional resources that can improve local initiatives.

25. New 2020 Japan Water Forum Fund (see eligible countries in link)
Aims to support selected grass-roots organizations in developing countries that have been addressing local water-related issues. Considering that clean water, sanitation and hygiene play a vital role in preventing infectious diseases including COVID-19, will highly appreciate proposals of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects.
Funding information: up to USD 1,000 per project.

26. Requests for Proposals, National Geographic
National Geographic Society and Microsoft’s AI for Earth program partnered to support novel projects that create and deploy AI tools to improve the way they monitor, model, understand, and ultimately manage Earth’s natural resources for a more sustainable future.

27. Request for Proposals, Southeast Aquatics Fund 2020 (USA)
Soliciting proposals to restore habitats and improve water quality in targeted river basins and watersheds of the Southeast. Competitive grants program that supports watershed-based restoration that will improve the health of these aquatic systems and secure populations of native freshwater aquatic species.
Funding information: grant awards expected to range from USD 150,000 to 350,000, depending on the overall scale and duration of the project.

28. Funding Call, The African Academy of Sciences (Africa)
Seeks early and mid-career scientists who demonstrate excellence in their development and application of science in Africa. These individuals become ‘Affiliate of the AAS’ for a period of five years during which they receive individualized professional development support and join a wider community of science leaders on the African continent.

29. 2020 Environment Small Grants, Columbia Basin Trust (Canada)
Projects that take place within the Columbia Basin Trust region that will strengthen the environmental well-being and address: ecosystems, climate, water, and environmental education.

30. Call for Proposals, European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (Sub-Saharan Africa)
To establish an African cohort of epidemiologists by supporting institutions in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe that provide master’s training in epidemiology and biostatistics, as part of the Africa CDC’s framework for public health workforce development
Funding information: call budget is EU 5,000,000; requested contribution per action should not exceed EUR 50,000 per student, with a max. total budget of EUR 750,000.

31. Commemorative Grant Fund for Capacity Building of Young Scientists (CGF) Program, Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (eligible Asia-Pacific countries in link)
Research projects with high priority include fieldwork-based studies which are scientifically and socio-culturally sound. Each project should be implemented by a project scientist, with adequate support of, and collaboration with, a project coordinator, who has scientific achievements and intends to take responsibilities for the research project.
Funding information: max. grant size is JPY 1,500,000 per project; total annual budget JPY 20,000,000.

Provide support for mid-career conservationists to pursue short-term, non-degree training to upgrade their knowledge and skills. This training can include short courses, certificate training, or conferences among other training opportunities.

36. Research Grants Program 2020, Merck
Open to scientists in all career stages who are affiliated with any research-based institution, university or company. Aim is to create new sustainable partnerships with leading global science and technology players to work on breakthrough science. Research areas: drug discovery, next generation machine learning, bioreactor design for cultured meat, and pandemic preparedness/fighting new emerging viral infectious disease.
Funding information: grants of EUR 100,000 - 500,000 per year for up to 3 years

37. New Call for Proposals, Agropolis Foundation (Sub-Saharan Africa)
"Innovative Co-Learning for Agriculture-based Solutions", in partnership with the Center for Synthesis and Analysis on Biodiversity (Cesab) Biodiversity Research Foundation (FRB) and the Biovision Foundation aims to support innovative, intersectoral and interdisciplinary training or learning projects that promote the agroecological transition through innovative approaches, tools, teams and networks.
Funding information: Up to EUR 835,000, complemented by partial postdoc co-funding by FRB/Cesab (valued at EUR 65,000) and by co-funding of two Summer/Winter/Thematic Schools by Biovision Foundation (valued at EUR 20,000).

38. New Call for Applications, Novo Nordisk Foundation (Denmark)
For projects supporting science education and informal learning environments. The Foundation wants to promote science general education and strengthen interest, knowledge and competencies in science and technology among children, young people and the population of Denmark in general.
Funding information: total of up to DKK 50,000,000. for distribution in autumn 2020 for project grants of DKK 3,000,000 - 6,000,000 of up to 6 years duration.

39. Call for Proposals, NordGen (Nordic countries)
For projects aimed at adapting environmentally and climate-friendly crops by using plant genetic resources. To support the development of Nordic plant breeding to satisfy the long-term needs of the agricultural and horticultural industries, especially adaptation to climate change, targets for environmental policies, and demands from consumers and markets.

40. NWO announces CFPs for SDG Interactions and Policy Interventions in Developing Countries (see eligible countries in link)
The NWO has announced a call for proposals for SDG Interactions and policy interventions in developing countries. This call for proposals invites consortia to propose high-quality and relevant knowledge brokering and synthesis expertise, services, activities and products to proactively support the program objectives and the research consortia funded in the SDG Interactions program.

42. Micro Grants, Danish Foundation for Entrepreneurship (Denmark)
Open to students or PhD students enrolled for and following a full-time education at an educational institution in Denmark. Initiative aims at strengthening economic growth and employment in the country. The long-term goal is to create growth companies that contribute with jobs, export income and growth in society.

43. New Call for Proposals, European Commission (EU)
Preparatory Action on Media literacy for All which aims at boosting media literacy in Europe through pursuing innovation and collaboration across media literacy communities within the EU, including by building on and scaling up existing solutions.

Call is looking for projects with ideas on how the Internet of Things (IoT) can be used in the public sector to achieve a higher quality of life for people in Sweden.

45. U.S. Embassy Port of Spain Public Affairs Section (PAS) Annual Program
Public Affairs Office in the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Port of Spain of the U.S. Department of State announced an open competition for assistance awards through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The purpose of funding projects is to further contributions to economic growth and the development of human and government capacity in Trinidad and Tobago, while developing people-to-people, institutional, and economic ties between the US and Trinidad and Tobago.
Award information: may range from a minimum of USD 500 to a maximum of USD 20,000.

46. r4d Program launches Second Call for Transformation Accelerating Grants
Second Call for Transformation accelerating grants (TAGs) that allow teams of r4d researchers and implementing partners (e.g. policy makers, the private sector, development practitioners) to make use of the knowledge, tools and technologies developed within r4d projects through translation and implementation initiatives. Transformation accelerating grants (TAGs) focus on co-creation, social learning, technology transfer and transformative actions with the ultimate aim to accelerate transformation towards sustainable development and reduce poverty in countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Award information: A total budget of about CHF 800'000 is available

47. CLÁR-Funding for Small-Scale Rural Projects (Ireland)
The CLÁR program (CeantarLagaÁrd-Riachtanais) provides funding for small-scale infrastructural projects in rural areas. CLÁR aims to support sustainable development in identified areas by attracting people to live and work there. The funding works in conjunction with local funding and on the basis of locally identified priorities. The scheme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development. It is delivered by local authorities in consultation with groups in local communities.
Award information: EUR 5 million

48. Saltonstall-Kennedy Grant Program, NOAA (USA)
Funds projects that address the needs of fishing communities, optimize economic benefits by building and maintaining sustainable fisheries, and increase other opportunities to keep working waterfronts viable.

49. Local Community Grants, Walmart Foundation (USA)
Open to organizations, government agencies, colleges and universities with a proposed project that benefits the community at large. To provide funding directly from Walmart and Sam’s Club facilities to local organizations in the U.S.

50. Call for Proposals, DIM ELICIT (France)
To support projects developing innovative technologies and methods regarding the analysis, diagnosis and/or treatment to fight SARS-CoV-2. The technologies targeted in this call will have to belong to at least one Core technologies and one End-user applications.
Funding information: EUR 15,000 for running and/or staff costs (66% max of total cost without VAT); and/or EUR 30,000 for equipment (66% max of total cost without VAT)

51. Call for Proposals, Government of Canada
The Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF) program is part of the Government of Canada’s Food Policy which is the country’s roadmap for a healthier and more sustainable food system. It aims to strengthen food systems and to facilitate access to safe and nutritious food for at-risk populations.

52. Global Water Futures – Affiliate Projects
The goal of the program is to deliver risk management solutions - informed by leading-edge water science and supported by innovative decision-making tools - to manage water futures in Canada and other cold regions where global warming is changing landscapes, ecosystems, and the water environment. Deadline: There is no associated closing date with applications.
53. (Africa)
Urgent Action Fund-Africa is expanding its COVID-19 response towards supporting women, transgender and gender non-conforming defenders with disabilities to: develop and widely disseminate messages and information about the disease in disability friendly formats, simplify and/or translate complex COVID 19 information, and provide practical resources.
Funding information: up to USD 8,000
Deadline: applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
54. COVID-19 Young Leaders Fund
Program is designed to support young leaders who are tackling the Covid-19 pandemic on the frontlines. Applicants should be focused on SDGs 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8. One Young World will prioritize initiatives which can use the funds to impact the maximum number of people to the greatest extent.
Funding information: One Young World recommends requesting between GBP 2,500 - GBP 10,000.

55. Global Innovation Fund (GIF)
This program seeks to invest in social innovations that aim to improve the lives and opportunities of millions of people in the developing world. Open to funding innovations in any sector as long as they can demonstrate their innovation improves the lives of those living on less than USD 5 PPP per day.
Range: USD 50,000 – 15,000,000
Deadline: Program is open on an ongoing basis.

6. New SDG Champions Program (Nigeria)
The Nigeria Youth SDGs Network (NGYouthSDGs) is on a drive to expand and engage more young people in achieving the 2030 Agenda with a focus on human capacity development and access to decent work.

7. John G. Bene Fellowship 2020, International Development Research Centre (Canada)
Trees and People: Resilience in a Changing Climate. Covers field research expenses for advanced master’s or doctoral students who intend to conduct their field research in one or more developing countries. Funds may be used to collect data and samples in the field, conduct interviews or surveys with local populations, and organize focus groups or workshops. Candidates must use findings from their field research to write their thesis.
Award information: one award of a maximum of CAD 15,000

8. Mekong Cultural Hub and British Council launch 2021 SEA Program
SEA is a program co-created by Mekong Cultural Hub and British Council which creates space for cultural practitioners to reflect on how their work in arts and culture can contribute to sustainable development within South East Asia through their individual and collective leadership. The program has 4 main gatherings spread over a one-year period where Fellows get together. Each gathering takes place in a different country and has a unique purpose: exchange, create, share then reflect. The program is an opportunity develop yourself, to develop and work with others, and to make an impact on society.

9. Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, The World Academy of Sciences-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research of India (developing countries in the South)
For young scientists from developing countries (other than India) who wish to pursue postdoctoral research in emerging areas in science and technology for which facilities are available in laboratories and institutes of the CSIR of India.

10. Tech Fellowship, Global Forest Watch Seeking forest protection advocates who are passionate about using technology for forest monitoring from a variety of sectors including: science, journalism, law enforcement, advocacy and conservation. Fellowship program is one-year long and offers opportunities for skill-building, networking and mentorship. Program includes participation in a four-day tech camp and the 2019 GFW Summit in Washington, D.C. Fellows will receive a stipend and access to funds for related activities. Deadline: The call for applications opens on February 15, 2019 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The Fellowship will run from June 2019 through May 2020.
11. Asian Peacebuilders Scholarship 2020
A shared initiative of The Nippon Foundation, the University for Peace (UPEACE), and Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU). The objective of the program is to train young Asian professionals to become peacebuilding practitioners, ready to take up leading positions in organizations across the globe. In particular, the program serves to strengthen the representation of Asian professionals with expertise in Asian issues.

14. Call for Female Applicants: AIMS-Canada Research Chairs in Climate Change Science, International Development Research Centre, Canada and Global Affairs Canada (GAC) Each Chair will be provided up to USD 970,000 over a four-year period and tasked with executing a world-class research program able to contribute significantly towards building both the human capital and the scientific knowledgebase required to solve important climate change-related problems in Africa and beyond. The application process will remain open until suitable candidates are identified.
15. Scholarship for Displaced Students, Columbia University
Supports displaced students from anywhere in the world who are unable to complete their higher education. These students will receive full tuition, housing, and living assistance while pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees across all 18 Columbia schools and affiliates. Scholarship aims to shift the global dialogue surrounding displaced persons, from one that views them as a burden to one that recognizes them as vital contributors to global innovation and prosperity.
16.Partnering for Change: Link Research to Societal Challenges, University of Basel
Course: How can we address societal challenges with research? Investigate the principles, processes, and uses of transdisciplinarity. Topics include: transdisciplinary projects on sustainable development, migration, and health.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) Global Development Lab (LAB) released two new Addenda under the Science, Technology, Innovation and Partnerships Annual Program Statement (STIP APS). The BRIDGE-Train and BRIDGE-U Addenda seek to engage global Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in advancing development research, innovation, research utilization, and training. While the goals of these Addenda are closely related, the LAB sees each Funding Opportunity as targeting a different point along the “research-to-action” spectrum.
Here’s what you need to know:
The BRIDGE-Train Addendum to the STIP APS aims to support institutional partnerships between HEIs in USAID Partner Countries and U.S.-based HEIs to develop research, innovation, and training centers for knowledge development aimed at addressing local and/or national development priorities.
The BRIDGE-U Addendum to the STIP APS seeks to establish or further develop a locally-led, HEI-based hub for research utilization in a USAID Partner Country to enhance capacity for translating development research and innovation.

Erasmus+ Joint Master Degrees (JMD) are offered by an international consortium of higher education institutions. Students from anywhere in the world at master's level can apply for these degrees and one of the approx. 15 student and 4 guest lecturers scholarships. Deadlines: various (depending on each consortium’s rules for application. Most consortia will require applications to be submitted between October and January, for courses starting the following academic year.
Europe: Fellowships & Funding Opportunities
AUSTRIA - Institute of Science and Technology call for professors for internationally accomplished scientists in all areas. Deadlines: On-going for Professor applications.
AUSTRIA - Lise Meitner Programme for Scientists from Abroad. Open to highly qualified scientists of any discipline with an invitation from an Austrian research institution. Applications accepted continuously, no application deadlines.
FINLAND - CIMO Fellowships. Open to young doctoral level students and researchers from all countries and from all academic fields. No application deadline.
FINLAND – EDUFI fellowships open to young Doctoral level students and researchers from all countries and from all academic fields. The scholarship period may vary from 3 to 12 months. Applications may be considered at all times. However, applications should be submitted at least 5 months before the intended scholarship period.
FRANCE – INRIA The "Internships" Programme (Incoming): Research training experience for students from all over the world; Undergraduate, masters or PhD students come and spend a few months in an Inria research team; 2-6 months with fixed remuneration around 500€ per month. Deadline: check on website
FRANCE – 15 Postdoctoral Fellowships on Biology and Information Technologies open to all nationalities at the French Atomic and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA). No specific application deadline: The positions are open until they are filled by appropriate candidates
FRANCE – INRIA International Chairs (Incoming) Funding for long stays by eminent international researchers in INRIA's project teams. Programme covers 12 months spread over 5 years. Open to high-level researchers who have their main professional activity outside of France. Deadline: 30 September 2018.
FRANCE - PRESTIGE Postdoc programme. The PRESTIGE programme, coordinated by Campus France, aims at fostering the international mobility of post-doc researchers. Three mobility schemes are available:
- Incoming, allowing foreign researchers to carry out their post-doctoral research work in France;
- Outgoing, for researchers from France wishing to carry out a post- doctoral research project in another country;
- Re-integration, targeted at nationals of EU Member States or Associated Countries working in research for at least 3 years in another Third Country to come to France to further develop their career.
- Applications are open all year round with four cut off dates: 31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December.
GERMANY -
Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers.
Open to Experienced Researchers of all nationalities and in all disciplines. Offer to spend up to 18 months collaborating with an academic host at a research institution in Germany. Deadline: Rolling (Note: The selection committee meets three times a year, in March, July and November.)
UK -
Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professorships. The Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professorships are awarded to UK institutions that wish to
invite an eminent researcher from overseas for an extended stay in the UK to enhance the knowledge and skills of academic staff or the student body within the host institution. Applications will be considered in
all subject areas with the following
exceptions: studies of disease, illness and disabilities in humans and animals, or research that is intended to inform clinical practice or the development of medical applications.
Applications must be made by a member of academic staff, based in a UK university or other higher education institution, who will be responsible for co-ordinating the visit. Visiting Professorships last for
between 3 and 12 months. Deadline:
11 October 2018.
