Mapúa is now offering a degree program on Physics for School Year 2016-2017.

Mapúa Institute of Technology is now offering Bachelor of Science in Physics starting first term of School Year 2016-2017. This offering aims to supply the country with graduates who can compete globally in terms of science and research.

According to Professor Dante J. Sauquillo, head of Mapúa’s Physics Department, the BS Physics program shall provide the students with a “comprehensive and rigorous training in physics as a foundation for careers in pure and applied physics, interdisciplinary sciences and engineering, materials science, mathematics, physical chemistry, meteorology, and biophysics.”

The curriculum of the BS Physics program will take about three years and one quarter and will enable students to shift to some selected double degrees with engineering if they wish to do so.

“We are currently offering double degrees with Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Materials Science Engineering; and considering to offer a BS/MS program for Physics in the future,” Sauquillo said adding that those who are pursuing or who wish to pursue BS Physics in the Institute will also have a lot of opportunities for research grants.

“With the expertise of the faculty members as research advisers, the students will gain experience and knowledge in the field to be engaged in relevant research works that are worth publishing internationally,” he concluded.

Students who wish to pursue a degree in BS Physics may find careers in private and government research and service institutes and the academe. They could work as data and energy scientists, professors and researchers, and software developers in leading industries.

The BS Physics curriculum will enable students to shift to some selected double degree engineering programs.

Mapúa envisions itself to be one of the best universities in the world, unceasingly fostering its tradition of excellence in engineering, architecture, information technology (IT), business, and social sciences education. It provides students a learning environment that will make them globally competitive, engaging in publishable and/or economically viable research, development, and innovation to provide state-of-the-art solutions to problems of industries and communities.

The Institute has continuously formed international linkages with prestigious companies and universities for research and development purposes, and international on-the-job trainings to prepare its students to the world of practice.
