During its 98th Foundation Week, Mapúa University officially marked the beginning of its 100th anniversary celebration by unveiling the centennial logo.
Held last January 24 at the Intramuros campus quadrangle, the unveiling ceremony was attended by Mapúa students, alumni, faculty, and administration.
In his speech, Mapúa President and CEO Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea highlighted Mapúa’s milestones through the decades since its establishment in 1925: providing technological manpower needed by a newly developing economy; pioneering programs in engineering and sciences and the use of advanced educational technologies; taking the lead in the at-scale implementation of outcomes-based and online education; and being the first private non-sectarian school in the Philippines to break into the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, among others.
“Mapua has been anticipative of the future and has striven not only to keep pace with the fast-changing times but has sought to help conceive, invent, engineer, and build the future,” Dr. Vea noted.
Themed “Always Building the Future,” Mapúa’s centennial logo banners its notable traits as an institution, the essence of its existence for a century—excellence, ingenuity, and social responsiveness.
Furthermore, the logo features: the University logo’s pixels that symbolize Mapúa’s constant thrust to harness advancements in Philippine education, as a response to the challenges of the digital and global age; an image of the globe that signifies the worldwide recognition of Mapua’s cutting-edge education and its commitment towards the Earth's sustainability; an image of people that embodies the University’s commitment to improving the lives of communities and its people by constantly producing excellent human resources and innovations; and the symbol of infinity, which is formed through the two circles that bear images of the planet and people, depicting Mapúa’s drive to withstand the test of time in the centuries to come as it continues to build a better future for its students, community, and the nation.
Earlier that day, the University also commenced its Centennial Lecture Series, featuring talks by Dr. Vea on Mapúa’s digital transformation, Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrocampo, Mapúa Board of Trustee, on Mapúa’s geographic expansion, and Dr. Bonifacio T. Doma, Jr., Executive Vice President for International Alliances and Cintana Partnership Executive Director, on Mapúa’s journey toward global university rankings.
