Mapúa among 2018’s best schools to study civil, electronics, electrical, and mechanical engineering in PH
Mapúa University was named among 2018’s best schools to study civil, electronics, electrical, and mechanical engineering in the rankings released by social news network Local Pulse. Rankings were based on the following metrics: (1) weighted overall board exam performance; (2) number of total examinees; (3) top performing examinees; (4) level of accreditation; and (5) faculty-student ratio.
Mapúa ranked first in 2018’s best civil engineering schools in the Philippines with an overall score of 85.93%. Out of 296 colleges and universities offering the undergraduate program, only 31 schools made it in the list. The University also ranked first in 2017’s best schools to study civil engineering in the country.
The University also earned the number one spot in the best electronics engineering schools ranking for year 2018 with a total score of 73%. Only 29 schools out of 239 colleges and universities offering the program made it in the list.
Mapúa also ranked third in last year’s best schools in the Philippines to study mechanical engineering with an overall score of 81.85%. Thirty-nine out of the 182 colleges and universities offering the program where featured in the list. The University also landed the 11th spot of 2018’s best schools for electrical engineering ranking with a total score of 75.35%. Thirty-seven out of the 218 schools offering electrical engineering were included in the list.
The four programs included in Local Pulse’s 2018 rankings are among Mapúa’s 11 engineering undergraduate programs accredited by US ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission, namely, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Environmental and Sanitary Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Mapúa’s international accreditation makes its graduates’ engineering practice on an equal footing with graduates of engineering schools in the United States.
ABET is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that accredits college and university programs in the disciplines of applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology at the associate, bachelor, and master degree levels. It ensures that students, employers, and the society it serves can be confident that a program meets the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to enter a global workforce (www.abet.org).
Mapúa University now holds the most number of ABET-accredited programs for a single campus in the Philippines with 14 ABET-accredited programs. Three of which are computing programs accredited by ABET’s Computing Accreditation Commission (ABET-CAC): Computer Science, Information Systems, and Information Technology.
The University’s four engineering programs in the rankings are also among the seven Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Centers of Excellence in Mapúa, namely, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Environmental and Sanitary Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Mapúa holds the most number of engineering programs that are CHED COEs in the country.
Mapúa has been named as one of the top universities in Asia, placing rank 401 – 450 in the 2019 QS Asia University Rankings.
