30 Short film finalists in CineMapúa 2019

Mapúa University’s inter-collegiate film festival, CineMapúa, will be showcasing 30 short films in its 17th year of promoting values through film and production.

CineMapúa announced on Thursday, January 9, the top 10 finalists of its three film categories: the Collegiate Category, High School Category, and the All Mapúans Category. It is the first year that CineMapúa welcomed entries from the high school level, encouraging young students to pursue their passion in filmmaking.

Film entries from College of Saint Benilde Manila, University of the Philippines Diliman, Far Eastern University Manila, De La Salle Lipa, Polytechnic University of the Philippines Manila, and the University of Santo Tomas will be competing under the Collegiate Category.

Entries from Jesus Dela Peña National High School - Marikina City, St. Paul University Manila, Far Eastern University Manila, Our Lady of Caysasay Academy - Taal, Batangas, Don Bosco Technical Institute Tarlac, Siena College of Taytay, Las Piñas National Science High School, iAcademy Makati, University of Santo Tomas, and Adamson University will be competing under the High School Category.

CineMapúa, which was started in 2002 as a Social Science class’ culminating activity, was institutionalized in 2012. It accepted entries from other universities in 2015 and has long been a platform for the University to raise public awareness of societal issues by showcasing films that depict real-life struggles of Filipinos.

CineMapúa is organized by SMS and the Mapúa Film, Arts, and Media Enthusiast (FAME) organization. Film showing will run from January 21 to 25 as part of the highlights of the University’s 94th founding anniversary celebration. The Awards Night will be held on the second week of February 2019. Mapúa University’s School of Media Studies is offering Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia and Bachelor of Arts in Digital Film. It will offer three more programs this coming school year namely, Bachelor of Arts in Digital Journalism, Bachelor of Arts in Advertising Design, and Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Media.
