Mapúa University joins Cloudera Academic Partnership program
Academic collaboration will deliver a data engineering curriculum to students through the University’s first ever data analytics graduate program and its computing programs’ business analytics courses
Mapúa University and Cloudera recently announced a partnership, Cloudera’s first academic partnership in the Philippines, to cultivate the next generation of data professionals. Through the Cloudera Academic Partnership (CAP) program, students enrolled in the University’s new tailored analytics graduate program and business analytics specialization tracks for its computing programs – Computer Science, Information Systems, and Information Technology – can access the latest Cloudera Enterprise curriculum, software and skills training, in preparation for roles in data engineering and data science fields.
Mapúa is the first university in the Philippines to join the CAP program and integrate Cloudera’s data engineering educational content into its curricula. The timely partnership will support Mapúa’s new analytics program launched under the School of Information Technology, as part of the University’s efforts to develop students’ expertise required for the evolving demands of a digital workforce. Leveraging the CAP program, Mapúa aims to support the national agenda to strengthen the digital literacy skills of 63 million people in the Philippines.
Launched in August 2018, the Master in Business Analytics (MAN) program, the first full-fledged graduate degree of its kind in the Philippines, is designed to provide students with both technical skills and business management know-how in deep data science and machine learning, and ensure they have the necessary skillsets to succeed in the industry.
“Mapúa has always placed a strong emphasis on developing a skilled pool of future-ready graduates. With the increasing demand for practitioners of analytics in today’s growing digital economy, our integration with the Cloudera Academic Partnership program aims to bridge the gap in the practice of data science and analytics by imparting our program’s collaborative feature that will give students the edge,” said Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, president of Mapúa University. “MAN will provide students the tools, powerful software, infrastructures, advanced analytical techniques and processes, and practical collaborations with industry experts and program sponsors. We hope that by working with Cloudera, we can equip our graduates with a robust mix of both technical competence and strong business acumen that is crucial for the IT professionals of the future.”
Mark Micallef, vice president, Asia Pacific, and Japan, Cloudera said: “We continue to see a strong demand for skilled data professionals across Asia Pacific, especially as businesses advance in their digital transformation journeys. Mapúa’s collaboration with Cloudera is a concerted effort to meet this demand and support the nation’s digital future. With extensive educational resources, the CAP program will enable Mapúa to build future-ready, competent graduates and help meet the demand for big data professionals across industries in the Philippines.”
