E ngr. Reynaldo Esguerra, a licensed Chemical Engineer, has over 30 years of experience in environmental management which includes research; policy studies; design of waste treatment facilities; water quality monitoring; and environmental management system.
He completed his B.S. Chemical Engineering and Master of Engineering (magna cum laude) from the Mapúa Institute of Technology in 1982 and 1998, respectively. He teaches part-time at the MIT Graduate School. At present, he is the Chief of Environment and Biotechnology Division of Industrial Technology Development Institute.
Presently, he is the Immediate Past President of the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers and had served PIChE in various capacities, such as president, executive vice-president, vice president for Metro Manila, public relations officer, and secretary since he became a member of the PIChE National Board of Directors.
He was Program Coordinator of the DOST Flagship Program on “Integrated Program on Cleaner Production Technologies”. This Program and other projects that he was involved accorded him the opportunity to assess over 200 facilities nationwide. He has prepared several training modules and manuals on cleaner production.
He has travelled extensively to Europe, Asia and North America for observation on environmental management practices and had presented papers on cleaner production and waste treatment local and international conferences. He also served as a consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organization on waste management in Grenada in the Caribbean.
His publications include Pollution Prevention and Control Series for the following industries: Fish Processing, Electroplating, Muscovado Sugar Milling, and Slaughterhouse. He is also the senior author of the Guidelines on the Use of Alternative Fuels and Raw Materials in Cement Kiln Co-Processing.
His membership in various intergovernmental technical working groups made him familiar with environmental regulations and trends and gave him the opportunity to network with other government entities.
Rey to his friends and colleagues, is a loving husband to Zenaida E. Esguerra and also a doting father to his twelve year old daughter, Karla Maria.
