The Presidency
Mapúa being the biggest Philippine engineering school and being a consistent topnotch performer in Board licensure examinations, its Presidency perforce is one of the most prestigious, if not challenging, jobs in Philippine academia.
While preserving Mapúa’s leading position in the country is big enough a challenge for the Presidency, the office has chosen to take on the bigger challenge of advancing towards being a regional, if not a global, center of excellence in technology education. The Mapúa President initiates and leads all actions towards the attainment of this vision.
Given its record of academic excellence and its past contributions to the Philippine economy, much is expected of Mapúa as the country tries to adopt a globally competitive posture. Aside from invitations to speak at major fora on technology matters, the Mapúa President is consulted by Malacañang’s Information Technology and e-Commerce Council (ITECC), by the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) Scientific Career Council and the Metro Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) Infrastructure Council. On the more mundane, but equally important, side, he is expected to continue to supply ever better engineers, I.T. professionals and architects to make more pleasant the humming of the Philippine economy. In the longer term he is also expected to help generate knowledge through research for greater competitiveness. |
