Guidelines for Advisee

The staff of the Peer Advising of Mapúa would like to share some guidelines that will make your experience with the peer advising process more valuable and pleasant. Relax and enjoy the experience.

Peer advising is meant to be a constructive experience outside the classroom, which helps you succeed in a particular subject area. If you need help, usually peer adviser can work on an individual basis or with students in small groups. As long as peer advisers are available and times coincide, we are usually very flexible with regard to meeting your needs. The Peer Advising Centers can be used for studying and study groups, so please feel free to come in at any time.

The following guidelines are for all students who use the Center and were developed in order for you to make the most of your time in the Center.

  • Sometimes your peer advisers will schedule peer advising with you. All arrangements for peer advising sessions are made at the mutual convenience of you and your peer advisers. Or you can choose the posted available schedule of peer advisers. It will be necessary for you and your peer advisers to exchange phone numbers.
  • If you cannot keep your appointment, call your peer advisers or the Center for Student Advising to cancel.
  • Peer Advising is most effective when you are prepared by having done your reading, attempted to do your homework, and have prepared specific questions. Peer advisers have been instructed not to do your homework; please understand that peer advising is assistance, not a substitute for studying or attending class.
  • Remember that neither the peer advisers nor the professional staff know or remember everything about everything. Sometimes they might need to go back over something to remember how a particular process works. Be patient.
  • Please make sure that you sign in and out in the logbook located as you enter the Peer Advising Center each time you use the Center, even if you are only coming in to study. We generate a report at the end of the term and this information becomes part of the data that is submitted in the report. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
  • If you are requesting peer advising, even if you are only asking a question in the Center, you will be asked to fill out necessary forms. We need this information for our records and because we do a follow up on students at the end of the term. This gives us information on providing services and is useful in writing reports and requesting funds.
  • Please come prepared, having looked over homework / assignments. Bring questions to your sessions. Please do not come, expecting to do all your homework with your peer advisers or expecting your peer advisers to do your homework for you.
  • And REMEMBER, all peer advising is Free of Charge!
