WHO ARE QUALIFIED?
- A non-immigrant applicant who graduated from a high school abroad may be admitted as a beginning FRESHMAN.
- An applicant who obtains a passing score in the MAPÚA entrance exam.
Foreign students are only taken in at the first year level; no advanced college units are credited at this school.
PROCEDURAL GUIDELINES IN THE CHANGE/CONVERSION OF ADMISSION STATUS TO THAT OF A STUDENT
An alien admitted into the Philippines under any visa category may apply in the Bureau of Immigration for the change/conversion of his admission status to that of a student under Section 9(f) of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940, as amended pursuant to E.O. No. 285 subject to the following guidelines:
DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS
- Applicant submits the following documentary requirements to the Admissions Office.
- Scholastic records or Transcript of Records duly authenticated by the Philippine Embassy in the applicant’s country of origin or legal residence
- Certification of Graduation or Certificate of Completion of Secondary Education duly authenticated by the Philippine Embassy in the applicant’s country of origin or legal residence
- Recommendation from the School Guidance Counselor or Principal
- Photocopy of applicant’s passport bio-page
- If documents are all okay, applicant fills out application form (downloable from www.mapua.edu.ph) then pays the application/testing fee of 50USD
- Applicant takes and passes the Mapúa Scholastic Aptitude Examination (MSAE). In lieu of the MSAE, the applicant may instead submit his SAT & TOEFL exam results with following cut-off scores.
- SAT: Score of at least 1700 for all applicants in programs with licensure examination
- Score of at least 1600 for all applicants in programs without licensure examination
- TOEFL: Score of at least 74.2 (internet-based test) or 537 (paper-based test)
- Once procedure 3 is complied, Mapúa issues an Offer Letter (for the issuance of tourist visa from the country of origin) to the applicant via Email. If an original copy of the letter is requested, the applicant shoulders the corresponding courier fee of 80USD.
- The applicant submits all the documentary requirements stated hereunder to the Office of the Registrar for evaluation.
- Original copies of all the documents in Procedure 1 (a, b and c)
- Photocopy of applicant’s passport bio-page, latest admission and authorized stay in the Philippines. The original copy is also presented for verification purposes
- If the applicant has stayed in the Philippines for more than 59 days at the time he applies for the change/conversion of his admission status to that of a student, an NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) clearance should also be submitted.
- The Office of the Registrar prepares the Notice of Acceptance (NOA) and written endorsement for the change/conversion of the admission status of the applicant to that of a student visa after the applicant has complied with all of the above requirements.
- The Office of the Registrar thru the Liaison Officer assists the applicant to the Bureau of Immigration for the conversion of the visa and application for Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR ICARD).
- The Bureau of Immigration processes the conversion of visa from 9(a) Tourist Visa to section 9(f) Student Visa.
- The Liaison Officer claims the 9(f) Student visa and ACR – ICARD and presents it to the Registrar for enrollment.
Note: The applicant will be issued a copy of 9(f) visa and the original ACR – ICARD
BI CHECKLIST OF DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION FOR CONVERSION OF STUDENT VISA (Section 9, para.F)
- Duly notarized letter request from the applicant;
- Duly notarized General Application Form accomplished by the applicant (BI Form No. MCL-07-01);
- Original copy of the Notice of Acceptance (NOA) containing a clear impression of the school’s official dry seal or a duly notarized written endorsement from the school for the conversion of the applicant’s status signed by the school’s Registrar;
- Original copy of Medical Certificate issued by the Bureau of Quarantine and International Health Surveillance or a government medical institution with competence to certify that the applicant is not afflicted with any dangerous, contagious or loathsome disease and is mentally fit;
- Plain photocopy of applicant’s passport bio-page, latest admission and authorized stay;
- National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Clearance;
- Official Scholastic Records.
