    Multimedia Arts and Sciences

    Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Arts and Sciences   

    This program is designed to train students to become contemporary visual artists and interactive media designers. Integrating the theoretical, creative, conceptual, and technical aspects of design and development through the use of modern technology, the program aims to equip the students with competencies in freehand drawing, computer graphic art, communication, and programming for various multimedia applications such as desktop publication, web design, photography and digital imaging, 2D/3D animation, video production, and computer games design.

    Graduates of this program may occupy critical posts in printing, advertising, marketing, communications, cyber station, computer simulation and virtual reality laboratories, education, and entertainment industries.


    Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Cinema   

    Cinemalaya, Cinema One, and Metro Manila Film Festival are just a few of the events that promote independent film using digital technology. Outside the country, film festivals like Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, and Berlinale are in the frontline of encouraging the production of digital cinema.

    Because of the increasing interest in digital films, more students are considering careers in this field. Workshops and degree programs in digital filmmaking are offered by various organizations and universities respectively.

    The Mapúa Institute of Technology, being in the frontline of technology and innovation, will offer the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Cinema (B.F.A. Digital Cinema) degree program.

    The term digital is used in the name of the program to refer to the new form and technology of capturing motion images. Cinema, on the other hand, is used instead of film, as a way of giving tribute to the Cinématographe, a camera and developing machine which could also project visual images on screen. This is the first equipment that demonstrated projected visual images the way we know now. The term film is not used because the students will not be working with the film or photographic material.

    The B.F.A. Digital Cinema will prepare students for careers as independent filmmakers in the rapidly growing field of digital cinema.

    Film or Cinema programs of schools offering these degrees are usually focused towards developing techniques. The Mapúa B.F.A. Digital Cinema program will also teach the film techniques during the first two years but the last two years will be geared to developing projects based on specific film tradition (documentary and experimental) and film genre (drama/biography, action, comedy, romantic comedy, horror/mystery crime/action, and science fiction/fantasy).

    Since digital technology has been democratized, the Mapúa BFA Digital Cinema program will focus in producing full-length films during the last two years. Short films will be produced during the first two years only.

    The program will hopefully attract students who will join the ranks of the new breed of independent digital filmmakers.

    Graduates of this program will have careers in entertainment, public relations, advertising, educational media, technical writing and freelance filmmaking job markets.
